Pike’s Illustrated Descriptive Catalogue Of Optical, Mathematical, And Philosophical Instruments
Benjamin Pike, Jr.
Out of Print
More comprehensive than any previous catalogue, Pike’s encyclopedic work devoted as much space to imported instruments as to those manufactured in America, making this catalog a reference work of nineteenth-century European instruments as well as the most complete illustrated description of American scientific instruments in the second half of the nineteenth century. The rare original edition sells for $600 or more, when and if it appears on the market. Even those fortunate enough to own the original edition will want to own our reprint because of the valuable new introduction and the very useful new index to instruments.
Approx. 730pp. Over 750 illustrations. 4 1/2" × 7 1/4". Cloth, acid-free paper. Norman Science/Technology Series No. 1. NP10172.
Reprint of the second and best edition (New York, 1856) with a new table of contents and combined index to instruments in both volumes, and a new introduction by Deborah Jean Warner, Curator, History of Physical Sciences, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution.
